Project “Conscious and active citizens’ participation in public life” was aiming to ensure civil and political rights of citizens by fostering conscious, active participation in public life of the state. Independent public policy observation and active civic activities were chosen to reach this goal.

Project results

• During the Project, 2015 Civic Empowerment Index research was carried out and its results were presented to the public. 
  
• 4 recommendations (propositions) on legislation improvement were prepared and presented to governmental institutions (in Lithuanian):
  1) Recommendation for “Open Government partnership” activity plan;
  2) Recommendation on fostering society’s participation in public  decision-making process;
  3) Recommendations on strengthening the power of the Lithuanian civil society;
  4) Recommendations on local government improvement.
• Research on attitudes towards immigrants was carried out and presented to the public.
• On the 22nd April, 2016, a public consultation was organized: local government officials, communities and NGO’s representatives, politicians and academics were discussing on the matter of direct elder elections.
• 99 CIVITAS public discussions were organized in various Lithuanian towns where local communities were discussing important public issues with invited lectors.
• In all Lithuanian municipalities civic action “White Gloves” was organized. Its goal was to observe the 2015 electoral campaign and ensure the transparency of the election itself. Recorded violations as well as the recommendations on ensuring transparent elections were published as an electronic publication (in Lithuanian).
